This church is considered to be one of the most ancient temples of Poltava.

The first notes about it were found among the documents of Poltava regiment dated 1686.

This church is the only specimen of wooden architecture of the 18th century in Poltava.

According to numerous stories, a great entreaty with Peter I participation in honor of
Poltava battle victory took place in this church. 

Nowadays, Spasskyi chuch is the most ancient and cult building of Poltava region.
