Description: North-eastern part of Poltava is an eternal place of sorting out of the relationships between two enemy parts. In August 1399 there took place the battle between Russian princes headed by the Great Lithuanian Prince Vitovt and the Tatar hordes headed by khans Titur-Kutluy and Edigey. The summer of 1654 was marked by the bloody actions of civil war (‘Ruins’), that took place on this territory, though the most remarkable events took place on that field during the battle between tsarist army of Peter I and Swedish army of Karl XII in June 1709. Since 1909 a museum, which tells about peripeteias of the Poltava battle, has been functioning on the historic place of the battle. Since 1981 state reserve ‘Poltava battle field’ has been the single museum in Ukraine, which is enrolled to the list of International Association of Military Historic Museums of the World the under the aegis of UNESCO. 9 exposition rooms are represented with priceless reliquiae: cold steel and fire-arms of XVII-XVIII century, the clothes of Peter I, personal tsarist items, battle banners, ancient pictures, engravings etc. | |
