| During the tour over Poltava, the city with the history of more than 1100 years, You will visit: the Round Square with the Glory monument, which was built in 1809 to honour the victory over Swedes, Cathedral Square and White Rotunda, which is built on the place of rest of the army of Russian tsar on the eve of the victory over Swedes and which is considered to be the most romantic part of the city. You will also see a country estate of I.P. Kotlyarevskyi, Uspenskyi Cathedral and ancient bell tower, famous Spaskyi Church – a contemporary of Poltava Battle, unique specimen of wooden architecture of the 18th century and many other interesting things. Walking over the city, You will admire with N. V. Hohol monument, T. G. Shevchenko monument, I. P. Kotlyarevskyi monument, Poltava ‘Halushka’ monument, Marusya Churay monument etc. Duration – 2-2.5 hours. |

The full tour over Poltava except all mentioned before sights includes also visiting of Berezovyi Square (Pushkin Square), Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy, expositions of which are exhibited in 36 rooms and consist of more than 200 000 displays and which is in the top five of Ukrainian museums etc. The excursion is divided in two parts. The first part is finished after the second hour of excursion, and you will have a 45 minutes break for your lunch in the café nearby. Afterwards you will have the rest of excursion. Poltava battle: when, why, how, aftermath |
Choosing an excursion to Poltava battle field, You will have a unique possibility to become familiar with the event which had a great influence on all-European history during XVII-XVIII centuries. In June 1709 a great battle between tsarist army of Peter I and Sweden-Ukraine united forces of Charles XII, the King of Sweden, and I. Mazepa, Hetman of Ukraine, took place on the area where nowadays national reserve ‘Poltava battle field’ is situated. In this battle Charles XII and I. Mazepa were defeated. The result of the battle had determined the European, Ukrainian and Russian history for the next several hundred years. Due to Poltava battle Ukraine has lost its independence app. for another 300 years, Russia obtained Europe’s recognition as the powerful military country, and for Sweden it was at the same time the end of great-power ambitions and the start of democratic transformations. During this excursion You are going to visit: Poltava battle field museum the expositions of which are represented in 9 exposition rooms and include 5 thousand exhibits (collection of memorable medals, coins, unique historical documents, works of arts, graphics, sculptures, cold steel and fire-arms of XVII-XVIII century, the clothes of Peter I, personal tsarist items, battle banners, ancient pictures, engravings); historic field of Poltava battle; obelisks on the places of ground redoubt; Sampsoniyivska church; communal grave of Russian soldiers; the monument to Swedes from Russians; the monument to Swedes from compatriots; monument to Peter ; monument on the place of crossing Vorskla river by Russian troop;, an stone lump on the place of command post of Peter I.
