The tree with its roots growing up
A local landowner (the late 19th to early 20th century.) wanted to arrange a place for outdoor recreation on the outskirts of village of Fedorivka, Karlivka district. To receive his guests, a dendro park was established in the middle of which some exotic plants (larch, thuja) combined with local species of trees (oak, maple and linden)
were planted.
In the very middle of the park, there is a tree to have roots growing upward. It is not known how it was planted and took roots because the things were kept secret. The only thing known is the tree has been planted at the beginning of the 20th century. The landowner’s gardener did it. The plant was thought to be most likely taking roots as cloche cultivation. This miracle tree was looked after by foresters in the first years of its life. It has been growing all alone and amazing with its mysterious oddness for the latest half century.
The tree in question is a rare weeping form of an ash-tree as roots of any outdoor plant cannot grow upward. The distorted and branched shape of the stem must have been artificially created by deshooting, constricting and due to a small area of the growth, therefore it looks so strange.
